Tuesday Teen Talk with Maryah: Life's Simple Things

It’s hard to believe how the little simple things in life can be so beautiful!!!!

As my little brother was “making wishes” on dandelions, I took this photo. It’s kinda funny to think of the things you would have wished for when you were three J (I’m still waiting for my pony to come)

‘The rainbows of life follow the storm’ (Author Unknown)

This makes me think about when you’re walking through a hard time in your life, and if you look hard enough there is always a lesson to be learned and that just might be the pot of gold at the end of your rainbow!!!!

Wednesday's Woman: Carrie Middlemiss: Bella Cupcake Couture: How Sweet Life Is!

I had the pleasure of recently meeting Carrie Middlemiss at a CRAVE business chat and was INSTANTLY drawn to her beautiful aura! She is enthusiastic, energetic, and clearly, one creative business woman! I hope you enjoy Carrie's fabulous story below and the YUMMY pix of her products!

From Pink Slip to Pink Frosting:
Bella Cupcake Couture was created by Carrie Middlemiss after being laid off as an 18-year employee of a bank which collapsed as a result of the economic downturn. Carrie had always wanted to contribute and be a part of the cupcake community and saw this as the perfect opportunity to follow her passion.

After a year of research and talking to cupcake lovers and shop owners, she decided upon the idea of starting a company that sells custom decorative textile-inspired cupcake wrappers to hide the crinkly, translucent paper they're baked in.

Carrie wanted something fashionable for the bottom portion of her cupcakes and always said "Why should the frosting have all the limelight?"

Now, Bella Cupcake Couture offers posh and chic textile-inspired cupcake wrappers. The boutique-style designs add a touch of sophistication and elegance for any special occasion. Carrie envisions the wrappers, which are printed with soy inks on recycled paper, at weddings, bridal and baby showers and as birthday gifts, housewarming gifts and a little treat for yourself.

Our hope is that our Bella Cupcake Couture wrappers bring smiles to the ones you care about and create cherished memories w
ith your friends and family. We want our customers to enjoy the simple pleasures and savor the sweet life.

When I asked Carrie to tell me the 5 things that make her happiest in life, her was her reply:
  1. Spending time relaxing with my husband and our dog Baxter.
  2. Creating special moments through food and celebrations with friends and family.
  3. Thinking outside the box and developing something unique.
  4. I love to joke around and make people smile/laugh.
  5. I enjoy random acts of kindness.

Thanks for being an inspiration Carrie! How sweet life is with people like you to inspire us!

Tuesday Teen Talk with Maryah: Everyone can do their part

We have all heard the saying “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle”… Earlier this week, I looked at the back of my soda can and I noticed the ‘recycle’ symbol and it got me thinking about all the different ways that people reuse the most random items you can imagine!!! I started to wonder what I could do to make a difference and be creative at the same time!

(FYI… this can says something cool about Habitat for Humanity… I was able to work on one of those houses last year for a service project with a group of friends… and WE HAD A BLAST!!!)

Since we live in a small town, our house doesn’t have a recycling container, so my family and I make trips to the local Recycling Center!

It doesn’t matter what your age is… you can always help make a difference in this world! Two of my younger brothers love to help load and unload all the recyclable stuff. (I’m SO happy that THEY liked UNLOADING everything, because it started POURING down rain while we were there!)

One of my favorite ways to see how people recycle is seeing how they can turn anything into cool piece of art! Especially when it is something that I love… like an amazing purse!!! Made out of one of my favorite things… CAPRI SUNS!!!!

I’ve seen these bags so many times in the stores… but instead of buying one of them, I’ve decided to do my part, by saving my Capri Sun packs so that someday I can learn to make my own bag! I did say that everybody could do their part to help recycle, so my little brother is very excited to help because his job is to help drink all of the juice! J

Happy Thought for the week: It's "Unwritten", so write your own song. :)

I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined
I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Oh, oh, oh

I break tradition, sometimes my tries, are outside the lines
We've been conditioned to not make mistakes, but I can't live that way

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten

Staring at the blank page before you
Open up the dirty window
Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find

Reaching for something in the distance
So close you can almost taste it
Release your inhibitions
Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins

Feel the rain on your skin
No one else can feel it for you
Only you can let it in
No one else, no one else
Can speak the words on your lips
Drench yourself in words unspoken
Live your life with arms wide open
Today is where your book begins
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten
The rest is still unwritten

Pink Light News: Artist Highlight: Liz Caldwell

Liz Caldwell is one of Pink Light's fab artists. She is super talented and I'm always excited to see the new designs she submits!

Liz Caldwell is a native New Yorker currently residing in New Jersey. She has been in love with drawing ever since she could hold a crayon and used to trace characters in her reading books, doodle in her notebooks and tell everyone she was going to be an artist someday. She studied Graphic Design at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ where she was given the opportunity to study abroad. She lived, ate, and breathed graphics for nine months at Nottingham Trent University in the UK, loving every minute of it. This experience would lead to a shift in her work which would change how she thought about graphic design forever. She stumbled into the surface design and stationery world some years ago and has decided this is where she'll stay.

Here are a few designs that Liz has been working on when not designing for Pink Light.

Here are a few of Liz's designs for Pink Light. Stop by and see the rest of these collections and more of Liz's designs at Surtex! Booth #317!
Also..stay tuned for Liz's gallery in our new website to launch July 1st! I know it will be fab!

What's inspiring me now: Vintage Letterpress Wood Type Blocks

You know how you have those things you keep around and know that someday you will need them for something? Well, my idea for "Pink Light Press" logo is to design it using vintage letterpress wood type blocks...which...I knew I had somewhere around the studio. The funny thing is that when I found them, I realized that I have been "pinking happy thoughts" for many years as I apparently had glued my blocks together (I do not remember doing this) to create words! See below. Hmmm...how to get them apart will be the challenge....

Love..and the background is a sundress print for Nordstrom!
Happy
Joy...and the background is a beautiful vintage print I found with the letterpress blocks! Score!
Hugs

What's inspiring me now: Woodinville, WA

Getting to know my own backyard (Woodinville, WA, just north of Seattle, approx. 15 minutes) as I'm working on a graphic design project relating to this area. In order to "feel the vibe" decided to spend a bit of time there over the weekend. A few pix to share below. Rich. Beautiful. Pacific Northwest. And true to nature, as soon as I had myself situated outside by the lovely gardens, laptop and all, had to run inside due to overcast skies and a downpour! There was something very comforting about that rain. Rain renews the spirit. Enjoy!
