Preparing for 2012!!!

I hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family! This happens to be one of my favorite times of the year. Reflecting on the past year and lessons I have learned along the way. Thinking about ways I can do better in the coming year and setting my intentions high.

I know that many people close to me had a challenging 2011. It was a year full of intense change, loss, separation from family and a lot of movement, which can be very unsettling. In light of these transitions, may we embrace all that we have experienced, learned, and gained from 2011. May we bless and release what we need to so that the light will shine on us every so brightly in the coming year!

He was talking to the parents at curriculum night about how wonderful the staff is and that he is blessed to work with them. Then he said, "Even if you don't know it, YOU ARE BLESSED ALSO". It hit me because sometimes we are blessed in so many ways that we don't even think about. Many are obvious and many we take for granted. I say we start noticing the ones we take for granted. ABC Kids Expo-Louisville 2011

It was a ways to travel, but I'm glad I was able to stop by and walk the ABC kids show in Louisville. There are so many great ideas out there for FUN kids products!!! My favorites:

1/ Oopsy Daisy: I was so excited to meet the owner of Oopsy Daisy (Fine art for kids) today. She is very kind and passionate about her products! Pink Light is soon to be one of their licensors, so I'm VERY excited about that! Stay tuned! Also, I saw some of Jessica Swift's amazing artwork for Oopsy Daisy! Check it out here! They are even MORE gorgeous in person. You can see all the paint texture and details. Lovely!

2/ Dwell: Love! They are taking over the world! ;) Great brand. They keep consistent with their designs and remain on top even when everyone else is trying to do the same look. I love that they're alway's a step ahead.

3/ Roommates: Gotta love this one! Roommates is a Pink Light Licensee! Shown here is just one of many of our new products with Roommates! My flowers were the focus of their booth! Their sales staff was so kind! They snapped a photo of me with the product and it will be on their facebook page soon. Check it out here.

4/ PetitNest: I was star struck again today! Met Tiffany Amber Thiessen at her booth for her line of baby furniture. Check it out here. Hopefully she'll keep my card around and call for our design services! Would love to do prints for baby bedding!

5/ Another favorite part of the show is that I saw a few different prints of mine in different booths, as well as one of my favorite artist's, Josephine Kimberling's prints! Seems like many children's wear and baby bag manufacturer's are using our open line designs on their products. Pretty cool to see!!

Overall take away is that I can't wait to launch Pink Light product in 2013! I'm going to wait until the show is back in Vegas as I understand it was a very well attended show. Pink Light will definitely be able to stand out in the crowd. So now all I need is the courage to manufacture. One step at a time...

Comforting Thoughts

I was just reflecting a bit on how unimaginably ungrounded my life has been this past year. Then, I remembered a phrase I've heard which goes a little something like this:

In order for the universe to manifest new, and more magnificence in your life, you must be willing to get a little uncomfortable. Or sometimes, VERY uncomfortable. Step into the unknown. Things may shake up a bit, but eventually they will settle down and you will be in your new glorious place. Thank goodness. Now for some peace, quiet, meditation, and drawing while the sun shines in my window. That is comforting to me.

I hope that everyone that reads Pink Happy Thoughts Always is enjoying the sunshine! I hope to get some photos of our great products up soon! In the meantime, I was just thinking about how to make your dreams come true and I CANNOT stress these three things enough: CREATE A VISION BOARD, WRITE IT DOWN, and SEE IT happening!!

Some incredible FUN and EXCITING things are happening with Pink Chandelier and they're those things that I haven't really put a lot of effort in to, but I have daydreamed about them A LOT!...they are coming true not because of hard work, but because THEY'VE BEEN ON MY VISION BOARD and in my MIND'S EYE!!!

This is a reminder to DREAM BIG--Bigger than you feel comfortable with!!! Then....BE PATIENT (that's the hard part ;)).

When something happens that is totally unexpected and seems unfavorable...remember to look at the event from all sides. View the event as as sphere and remove yourself from it--take many steps back and them look at it from all angles, up, down, sideways, rotate around it and you will find that there is something good that will come of it. I had a rather unexplainable event occur last week and instead of complaining and dramatizing it and discussing it with others, I kept my faith and knew that good would come. I just received a phone call and turns out that the event is favorable for ALL involved. Pink Happy thought: stay calm and keep your faith and remember that all is GOOD. Have a great week!

Surtex 2011 was a ton of fun! Still getting all caught up after the big show! It went by too fast and I'm already looking forward to next year! Check out some of our pix below..

Day 1...setting up the booth!

My wonderful Pink Light assistants Taylor and Sandy. I couldn't have done it without them! And it definitely wouldn't have been as fun!

After a full day's work...the booth is complete! Our first double booth yet!

Day 1 dinner with guest artist Jane Dixon. Big thanks to Jane for coming to NY and helping out in the booth! It was a ball!

Day 2...Opening night party at Battery Park.

The last day of the show...our booth has been packed and the art is ready to take home in our Pink suitcases!!! Another big thanks to Sandy and Taylor. This luggage is not light!

Artist Highlight: Elissa Hudson

I am super excited to be representing the very talented artist Elissa Hudson! Not only are her designs filled with happiness and a joy for life, but her personality reflects the same! Elissa's collections are available for fabric, wall art, home decor, and many other categories. Please stop by Pink Light booths 317 and 416 at Surtex to check out Elissa's brand new collections!

Elissa Hudson is an illustrator who completed her M.F.A. in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia where she was honored with the 2006 Outstanding Achievement Award.

Her book Dogs of the South was selected as one of the top six entries for the Teatrio International Children’s Book Annual and international traveling exhibition. She is the illustrator of the book Mama’s Going to Heaven Soon (Augsburg Fortress 2005) which is now in it’s second printing and has been nominated for several children’s book awards. Elissa's fresh, lively work has been featured on many Hallmark Cards, and in Chesapeake Family Magazine, Hallmark Magazine, Word Up Annapolis Magazine, Cricket Magazine and Names and Numbers publications. Her other freelance projects have included custom invitations and announcements, custom nursery decor, and logo design. The cover she illustrated for Chesapeake Family Magazine (June 2005) received the Gold award from the Parenting Publications of America for Original Illustration. She has been the featured artist at the Illinois Art Week Art Walk, and has displayed work in group and solo exhibitions. Currently she is keeping busy with her ETSY shop and work for Pink Light Design.

Elissa loves design, illustration, and hand lettering. She plans to continue creating work that brings smiles and happy thoughts to her viewers throughout the lifetime of many ink pens!

When asked about the top 5 things that make Elissa happiest, she replied:

1. Time with my wonderful family and friends
2. Starbucks Iced Vanilla Lattes
3. Dark Chocolate
4. My 'job' that I LOVE- (that doesn't feel like a 'job'!)
5. Traveling and researching trends and new styling directions

Pattern People E Book-Available Now!

The Pattern People e-book is available now! It's titled "Pattern and Beyond". I had a moment to quickly scan the contents and it is EXTREMELY informative for designers as well as easy to read and understand! I look forward to reading it thoroughly this weekend. Check it out here!

Two of my patterns are featured in the book, as well as many designs by Diana Skylacos, one of our artists. I also noticed friend and colleague Rebekah Ginda featured as well. Enjoy!

Pink Happy Thought for the week

I was recently listening to an inspirational cd and there was an interesting story...it goes something like this...

There was a man who wanted desperately to go on a cruise. He saved up enough money and bought his ticket. He brought with him a suitcase of cheese and crackers. Each day, when all of the others went to the BIG, BEAUTIFUL, banquet hall for dinner, he sat outside the banquet hall and ate his cheese and crackers. This went on night after night. Then, one evening a kind man asked the man eating the cheese and crackers, "Sir, why don't you come join us in the banquet hall for a lovely meal?" The man replied, "I only had enough money to buy the cruise ticket, I cannot afford to purchase expensive meals each night". The kind man was shocked. "Well, sir, he said, don't you know, that the MEALS are INCLUDED in the price of your ticket?"

There's another story that I have also heard with a similar message. It is about another man who is on a cruise and he walks in late to the banquet. He sits down at the table and notices that all of the other people are eating their delicious meals. He waits and waits at his table and no one comes up to help him. He gets frustrated and finally asks when he can get his meal. The worker replies "You can serve yourself". It is a beautiful buffet of all sorts of delicious food and the man simply needed to get up, and get it himself.

Life is lovely and beautiful and full of wonder. Take your ideas, your creativity and your dreams, and make them happen for yourself. No one else will make your dreams come true...except you! :)

CHA January 2011 Designer's Showcase

I am so glad that I decided to do CHA again this year. Above is a pix of the "Designer's Showcase" where we had an opportunity to display products that have our designs on them. I look forward to being back in Anaheim next year and having a table full of all our artists designs!

CHA is a fun show full of possibilities and a happy atmosphere! Big thanks to everyone who worked so hard on putting together the licensing and design section. I had a great time meeting up with my bff Miss Khristian Howell and Jim was THE BEST! I've convinced him to come to Surtex with us in May.

I knew that Momenta would be promoting our "Free to Be Me" collection in their booth, but I had not idea it would be so striking! This collection is used allover their booth walls, on promotional bags and photo brag books, and even on the cover of their catalog! So exciting to see! Also, the actual licensed scrapbook pages are BEAUTIFULLY printed with foils and glitter effects. Stop by booth 2223 to view Momenta's amazing scrapbook pages. ALSO, "Kalaidascope" and "Brea's Room" collections by artist Kristin Knych are launching as well! I will try to get pix of actual product in the next few days. Artist Highlight: Jen Da Silva

I am very excited to announce our newest Pink Light artist, Jen Da Silva! Although I have not met Jen I can tell that she has such a fun personality that 100% comes through in her unique designs!

Jen Da Silva studied Textile Design at the National School of Fine Art in Lyon, France. She then created screen printed t-shirt designs for a brand called Jonytoy. After which, she started doing freelance design for fashion and gift wrap companies. Jen loves vintage patterns from the 50's and 60's and dreams of having all of the vintage Eames chairs in her apartment!

When I asked Jen about the top 5 things that make her happiest in life and design she answered:

1/ Finding 60's dresses in vintage shops

2/ Listening to rock and roll music

3/ Screen printing her drawings on t-shirts

4/ Japanese food

5/ A glass of good french red wine!

I am having so much fun at Printsource connecting with clients and friends! Although I am not able to attend the trend seminars, I have wonderful colleagues and friends who have shared their trend info!

The best thing I heard today? Pink is the "Power" color for Spring and Summer! Keep Pinking Happy Thoughts and we will be working on lots of designs with pink in them! ;)
